Save Time With GPTs

Hello Friends,

It was another jam-packed week in the rapidly advancing world of AI. We’re here to simplify it for you. This is what we’ll be covering today:

  • Surge In Demand For ChatGPT

  • Build and Use GPTs to increase your productivity

Navigating GPTs

OpenAI launched their GPTs feature on Nov 6th during their Dev Day – the ability to create custom versions of GPTs within ChatGPT for a specific purpose – and since then the demand for the conversational AIs for business and creative purposes has skyrocketed. So much so that OpenAI actually decided to halt any new subscribers to ChatGPT due to the drastic increase in usage.

Personally, I’ve been in the weeds learning the pros and cons to these GPTs and the potential for them to save time and enhance productivity.

Something I’ve been observing as these different AI tools launch in general is that there is such an abundance of information and resources made available (if you do a quick Google search you’ll find 1000s of these GPTs). However, a framework to actually best implement them into your business or personal life without it becoming overwhelming often isn’t there.

With this newsletter, I hope to provide frameworks, and help with cutting through the noise to make the process of integrating AI into your business or life straightforward.

A Tutorial on Creating GPTs

OpenAI did a great job at decreasing the barrier of entry to building out these GPT chatbots. You have the option to describe what you want built and a GPT Builder within ChatGPT will actually do it for you, or you can manually create it yourself to the exact specifications you want. The only caveat to all of this is that you must be subscribed to ChatGPT’s $20/month plan to create or access these GPTs.

Example: Podcast Prodigy

Below is an example of a GPT that I created earlier this week specifically for spitting out titles, descriptions and tags for YouTube videos and podcasts.

I named it “Podcast Prodigy” and when drafting the instructions for the GPT, I specified for the description of the podcast episode to be concise, no more than 4-5 sentences.

I also stated that the order of events will be that I paste a copy of the transcription to the search box, and the GPT will respond with a few possible titles, 2 options for the description and a set of tags.

This is literally all you need to do on a basic level to create the GPT. Now, to take things a step further, you can upload examples of descriptions, titles, and tags you’ve used in the past or from podcasts/videos you’re influenced by to get the GPT to learn the kind of style you like. This will help the responses align more with what you’re looking for and decrease additional editing time.

These rules of thumb apply to virtually any GPT you’re creating. A practical way of going about integrating GPTs into your personal or business workflow is documenting every task involving writing or images that you typically do manually, and thinking about how you can replace this task with a GPT. From there, you can either go ahead and create your own, or identify an existing one to use.
