The Art Of Prompting

Most of us are familiar with ChatGPT and the basics of how it operates. You type in a question, a request, or start a conversation in order to receive back a response to help with a task you’re doing.

However, there’s an art to prompting, and the input you provide to ChatGPT or any other conversational AI is extremely important if you want to get back a response that you’re satisfied with.

The process of giving an input to ChatGPT in order to get back a qualified response is called Prompt Generation

One way to get your gears turning when it comes to prompting is by using prompt frameworks, which are templates to jumpstart the conversations you have with conversational AIs.

For instance, here’s a prompt framework that you can use when looking to create scenario-specific content:

SEA

Situation - The backdrop or circumstances that set the stage for the task at hand. Helps the user understand the surrounding conditions or reasons for a given activity

Execution - The action you wish the AI to take. This can be anything from a simple task to a complex procedure

Appearance - Directs how you'd like the AI's output to look. It can be a bullet-point list, a written narrative, a graph, or any other display form

Example:

You're a real estate agent meeting with new clients who are first-time home buyers.

Provide tips and advice for how to navigate the home buying process.

Present as talking points in a client consultation.

Response:

The latest News and Happenings in AI

This past Monday OpenAI, the team behind ChatGPT and the text-to-image tool DALLE-3, held their first ever Developers Day in SF. Among the many announcements they made, OpenAI launched “GPTs,” which are custom ChatGPT agents that you can make without coding, tailored to a specific task.

In addition to this new functionality, OpenAI is also creating a GPT store, something that AI & tech enthusiasts have been comparing to the likes of a mobile app store except it’s for conversational AIs. Read more about OpenAI’s latest announcement and their Dev Day here:
